- Access for our AI powered experiences
- Personalized recommendations
- Progress tracking for learning activities
- Registering for certification exams
- Sharing training and credential progress with employers or schools
- Earning EXP and achievements
- Access to free Azure resources and sandboxes
- Participation in challenges and Q&A
Create a Microsoft Learn profile
Before creating a Microsoft Learn profile, check if you already have one under a different login—like a work, school, or another personal Microsoft account. To check, search your email for past messages from Microsoft Learn.
You need a Microsoft account to create a profile. You can use either:
- A personal Microsoft login account (recommended): Keeps your learning progress and credentials even if you change jobs or schools. You can only use one personal account.
- A work or school login account: Lets your organization track learning progress and allows you to access organizational discounts. You can add up to five of these.
We recommend starting with your personal Microsoft login account. After creating your profile, you can add work or school login accounts at any time.
To create your profile
- Go to any Microsoft Learn page.
- Click Sign in (top right).
- Sign in with your Microsoft account.
- If it’s your first time, you’ll be prompted to set up a profile. If not, you’ll be signed in automatically.
About your Learn settings
Familiarize yourself with the following important Learn Settings:
- Learn Username: This is your unique ID on Microsoft Learn and appears at the end of your public profile URL (used to share achievements). You can change it anytime in your profile settings. Support will ask for this if you have issues with your profile.
- Legal Name: This is used for identity verification when taking a Microsoft Certification Exam. Your legal name must match the name on the government-issued ID you'll present at your exam appointment. If you've already registered for an exam, changing it requires Microsoft support approval.
- Display Name: This is the name shown on your public profile, certificates, and transcripts. You can use a preferred name here and change it anytime.
- Contact Email: This is where you’ll receive notifications from Microsoft Learn, including exam certification renewal reminders, Q&A replies, and challenge updates. Make sure it’s an email you regularly check and can receive emails from Microsoft.

Add login accounts to your Learn profile
After creating your Learn profile, you can add other login accounts.
Availability of the credentials and achievements on your Learn Profile depends on your continued access to at least one of your designated login accounts.
- If you created your Learn profile using a personal login account, you may add up to five (5) organizational (work or school) accounts. This allows you to provide your professional or academic organization with access to your learning progress data and to take advantage of organizational discounts.
- If you created your Learn profile using a work or school account, adding a personal Microsoft account is highly recommended. This ensures that you maintain access to your learning history and credentials regardless of your employment or academic status. Only one personal login account is allowed.
To add another login account to your Learn profile:
- Select the profile icon in the top, right corner
- Select Settings
- Under Account Management, select Add Login account
- Sign in to the login account you want to add
- Adding a login account that is already associated with a different Learn profile will result in a Profile Merge.
Learn Profile Merge
If you have created more than one Learn profile, you may be able to merge them.
Merging brings together all learning progress, credentials, and transcripts from both profiles.
- Your data will be merged into a single profile
- You’ll still be able to sign in with all login accounts on both profiles.
- Editable information like your display name and interests can still be changed later.
- All your learning progress will be combined in one place.
Merging profile data can't be undone.
